Lakeland Theatre Company and The Lakeland Ambassadors announce the
public availability of space for our inaugural New York Education Trip on
July 26, 2009.
The trip starts on Sunday morning, July 26, 2009 with a train ride
between Rocky Mount and New York’s Penn Station. (The train ticket is not
included in the total price, but at press time the roundtrip fare was
$120.00.) After a transfer between Penn Station and our hotel, we settle
in for 5 nights in the Theatre District.
The trip also includes 5 performances, including 3 Broadway musicals,
and 2-3 after-performance visits with the cast and crew. Shows under
consideration include The Phantom of the Opera, Billy Elliot,
Shrek The Musical, In The Heights, Mamma Mia!, Wicked and
West Side Story, among others. In between seeing
these shows, the group will also attend private workshops with Broadway
professionals, including a seminar with an actor from one of the shows we
are seeing.
Other workshops may include Stage Combat, Improvisation, Musical
Theatre, Auditioning, Technical Theatre, Theatrical Makeup, and Dance.
There will be 4-5 workshops, depending on our schedule and the
availability of the instructors.
All meals in New York (a continental breakfast at the hotel, lunches
and dinners) are included, as well as an orientation session on places to
shop and safety in New York.
We will also take one full-day or two half-day tours of Radio City
Music Hall and tour various neighborhoods, theatres and stores as a group,
based upon the preferences of the group. This is a once-in-a-lifetime
opportunity for a young person interested in the theatre – and a golden
opportunity for anyone else to come see New York theatre at its best and
learn what makes Broadway tick!
The price for this trip is $1999.00 per person, based on triple or
quadruple occupancy. Rates are available for those desiring double or
single occupancy, too. (The train fare is not included in this price,
because while it is now the most economical way to get to New York at this
time, there may be other alternatives by July 26th.) Children under
the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult or make arrangements to room
with a responsible adult while on the trip. A non-refundable
deposit of $250.00 per person is due to Lakeland by January 10, 2009, and
will be used to secure the best tickets for the shows we will be seeing in
July. Subsequent payments of $150.00 per month will be due on the first of
each month, beginning on February 1, 2009, with the balance due on June
10, 2009.
