January 28. The Golden Gates and Moscow Nights.
(Special Event) Created in 1993,"The Golden Gates" have taken part in
cultural and folk festivals throughout Russia and Europe. The performers, ages 5 to 16,
are consistently recognized as one of the most talented and exceptional presenters of
Russian folk culture. They are accompanied by “The Moscow Nights”, professional musicians
from St. Petersburg who are outstanding folk artists in their own right. The program
includes songs, rituals, folk stories and dance that has been carefully researched and
recreated in performance. Two school day matinees and evening performance on January 28

January 29 only. Gala Art Auction Fundraiser.
(Special Event) Do you have a bare wall that needs to be covered? Over 400 pieces of
art from internationally known artists will be auctioned off on a gala night of fun and
excitement that benefits the programs of the Lakeland Arts Center. Be sure to attend and

February 5 only. The L.O.V.E. Awards. (Special Event) Give
yourself an early Valentine’s Day present and get “dressed up” for our annual awards show.
With highlights from the past year and a preview of this year’s first show, the L.O.V.E.
Awards honors all those who have contributed to the success of Lakeland over the past 12
months. It’s a great evening, modeled after the “Oscars”, and it’s a wonderful way to say
“thank you” to those who have given so much over the past year to entertain you. Presented

(Play) This dramatic adaptation of “the best American children’s book of the past two
hundred years” (Children’s Literature Association) was created by Joseph Robinette with
the advice of author E. B. White. It’s the story of Wilbur, a young pig who would like
to grow older, and his friends in the barnyard, animal and human, who help save him from
becoming breakfast ham. This play is about friendship and teaches us all wonderful lessons. |

March 18, 19, 20**, April 1, 2. Who’s Under Where?
(Play) Aspiring fashion designers Jane and Sybil are on the verge of the deal of
their lives. They have rented a hotel suite for a very private showing of their
“Passion Fashion Wear” lingerie with famous Italian designer Bruno Fruferelli attending.
They have anticipated everything – except the arrival of their jealous husbands who
have jumped to the wrong conclusions! Combine suspicious spouses, stolen underwear,
mistaken identities with a crazy Italian designer, models and a lecherous security guard,
and you have the recipe for a side-splitting farce in the best comic tradition.

The Los Angeles Times called it “a jewel of the American theater.” The Houston Chronicle
called it “a masterpiece…a great and richly entertaining musical.” One of the best musicals
ever written, Showboat spans the years between 1880 and 1927, telling the stories
of three generations of show folk and their life-long friends on the Mississippi River,
in Chicago and on Broadway. You’ll be entranced by songs like “Make Believe”, “Can’t Help
Lovin’ Dat Man”, and the classic “Ol Man River”, done in grand Lakeland style! |
